From Grassroots Marketing to Long-Term Strategy

Part 2 of a 2 part series on Social Media and Marketing

In our past post, Social Media and the Power of Face to Face Marketing we told the story of Stu Clott and how his grassroots social marketing strategies launched his business, Anywhere Bicycle Repair, from a one-man operation to a vibrant and growing company. By valuing each of his customers, and intentionally going out of his way to connect with them face to face, Clott made a name for himself and his business.

However, as any marketing professional could tell you, face to face marketing is not a complete strategy. Certainly it has its perks, and certainly it can be wildly successful, like in the case of Anywhere Bicycle Repair, but at some point a more complete strategy will need to be implemented. Something that encompasses a long term plan.

Growing with his company, Clott has begun a simple marketing interface to stay in contact with his customers when they aren’t out biking and he’s not handing out bananas and waters at Torrey Pines.

“We use MailChimp to send emails to our customers two weeks after their bike was serviced, asking if everything is performing as expected. We also email all of our customers every Friday around four of five in the evening,” said Clott. Despite the advice of virtually every professional marketer, the Friday evening drip campaigns are performing for Clott because, once again, he took the time to get to know his customer base.

The dedicated cyclists to which Anywhere Bicycle Repair caters rarely stay out late on Fridays, instead they can be found preparing for an early morning ride the next day.

Clott knows his customers, and he knows when they’re available, thus his every Friday evening email campaign sees far more open and click through rates than the more standard times the market has come to expect.

Clott’s campaign works for him and his customers, but now that Anywhere Bicycle Repair is so successful, is there more that can be done?

Certainly. There is always more that could be done. But how exactly do you go about it? Where do you begin? Website overhaul? Search Engine Optimization? Social Media campaigns? Mass email campaigns?

Well that’s where a professional marketing and web design firm such as Jason Paul Marketing comes in.

Grassroots social marketing can get your business off the ground – take it from an idea to a growing company. And basic email drip campaigns can help maintain repeat customers, but there’s so much more that can be done to help your business grow.
